Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced
Radiology Clinical Applications Manager
to lead the support, administration, operational management, and continuous improvement of enterprise Radiology applications and imaging environments across a large, multi-site healthcare organization.
The Radiology Manager will be responsible for leading a team of Radiology Clinical Application Support professionals supporting mission-critical PACS, VNA, diagnostic workstations, advanced visualization platforms, reporting solutions, image-sharing applications, and associated Radiology workflows.
The ideal candidate will combine
strong Radiology IT domain expertise with people management and service delivery leadership
. The candidate should have an in-depth understanding of PACS/RIS workflows, DICOM, HL7, modality connectivity, enterprise imaging architecture, diagnostic workstations, and integrations with EMR/EHR platforms.
This role will serve as a key liaison between
radiologists, physicians, technologists, clinical stakeholders, application support teams, infrastructure teams, vendors, and IT leadership
to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of systems supporting patient care.
Day-to-Day Job Duties
Radiology Application Support Leadership
Lead and manage the Radiology Clinical Applications Support team responsible for L2/L3 support of enterprise imaging applications.
Provide technical and operational leadership across Radiology application support activities.
Establish team priorities, workload assignments, escalation paths, and support coverage for mission-critical applications.
Ensure incidents, service requests, problems, and changes are managed within established SLA and operational targets.
Provide guidance to team members on complex Radiology application and workflow issues.
Ensure appropriate support coverage for critical clinical systems and workflows.
Mentor and develop team members to strengthen application, workflow, and troubleshooting capabilities.
Identify skill gaps and develop cross-training and knowledge-transfer plans across the Radiology application portfolio.
PACS & Enterprise Imaging Management
Provide technical oversight for enterprise PACS, VNA, and Radiology imaging environments.
Ensure reliable image acquisition, storage, retrieval, interpretation, and distribution across hospitals and clinical locations.
Oversee:
DICOM routing
Modality Worklists
Image lifecycle management
Image archiving and retrieval
Study reconciliation
Image distribution
Modality onboarding and connectivity
Provide oversight and coordination for PACS upgrades, migrations, configuration changes, patching, and maintenance activities.
Ensure appropriate operational procedures are established for system downtime, recovery, and business continuity.
Radiology Workflow & Integration Management
Maintain a strong understanding of end-to-end Radiology clinical workflows and application dependencies.
Ensure interoperability across:
PACS
VNA
RIS
EMR/EHR
Radiology reporting platforms
Modalities
Diagnostic workstations
Advanced visualization applications
Image exchange platforms
Provide technical oversight for DICOM and HL7 integrations.
Ensure the team can troubleshoot HL7 workflows including
ADT, ORM, and ORU
message flows.
Oversee resolution of issues involving:
Patient/order information
Modality Worklists
Exam routing
Study reconciliation
Image availability
Reporting workflows
Image distribution
Patient/study matching
Incident, Problem & Major Incident Management
Own and oversee escalated incidents impacting critical Radiology applications and clinical workflows.
Provide leadership during Priority 1/Priority 2 and other major production incidents.
Coordinate multidisciplinary troubleshooting involving Clinical Applications, Network, Server, Database, Interface, Desktop, Security, and vendor teams.
Ensure the Radiology application team performs appropriate application and clinical workflow analysis before or while engaging dependent technical teams.
Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring and high-impact incidents.
Track corrective and preventive actions through completion.
Analyze incident trends and identify opportunities to improve application stability and support effectiveness.
Ensure effective communication with clinical and IT stakeholders during major incidents.
Advanced Visualization & Specialty Imaging
Provide operational oversight for advanced visualization and post-processing applications.
Ensure appropriate support for Radiology specialty imaging workflows and associated applications.
Work with radiologists and clinical stakeholders to identify workflow optimization opportunities.
Coordinate with vendors and technical teams to resolve complex visualization, processing, rendering, and integration issues.
Diagnostic Workstation & Viewer Management
Oversee support for Radiology diagnostic workstations, enterprise viewers, web viewers, and zero-footprint viewing solutions.
Ensure the team has a strong understanding of general diagnostic workstation hardware and software.
Coordinate troubleshooting of:
Workstation performance
Image rendering issues
Display and accessibility problems
Viewer connectivity
Application performance
Hardware and peripheral issues
Work with desktop and infrastructure teams to ensure diagnostic workstations meet clinical and application requirements.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
Serve as a primary point of contact for Radiology application vendors and key clinical stakeholders.
Build strong working relationships with radiologists, physicians, technologists, nurses, operational leaders, and IT teams.
Manage vendor escalations and ensure timely resolution of critical application issues.
Participate in vendor service reviews and monitor outstanding technical issues.
Coordinate vendor involvement for upgrades, implementations, migrations, patches, and complex troubleshooting.
Translate clinical and operational requirements into actionable technology and support plans.
Communicate application risks, outages, planned changes, and operational issues to appropriate stakeholders.
Service Delivery & Operational Governance
Manage overall service delivery for the Radiology Clinical Applications portfolio.
Monitor and report on operational metrics including:
SLA performance
Incident volumes
Aging tickets
Major incidents
Problem records
Application availability
Change success rates
Recurring issues
Customer satisfaction
Conduct regular operational and service review meetings.
Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and support optimization.
Ensure adherence to ITIL processes for Incident, Problem, Change, Request, and Knowledge Management.
Maintain appropriate application documentation, support procedures, knowledge articles, escalation matrices, and runbooks.
Change, Release & Application Lifecycle Management
Provide leadership and oversight for application upgrades, releases, patches, migrations, and implementations.
Coordinate application testing and validation with technical teams, vendors, and clinical users.
Evaluate production risks and dependencies associated with application changes.
Ensure appropriate change management and clinical validation processes are followed.
Support application lifecycle planning and technology roadmap discussions.
Participate in enterprise imaging modernization and transformation initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
Radiology Leadership Experience
15+ years
of Healthcare IT / Radiology Informatics / Clinical Application experience.
8+ years
of team leadership, technical leadership, application management, or service delivery management experience.
Demonstrated experience managing or leading enterprise Radiology/PACS support teams.
Experience supporting large, multi-site hospital or integrated healthcare environments.
Strong understanding of clinical support models and the criticality of Radiology systems to patient care.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare Informatics, or related field.
Experience leading Radiology Clinical Application teams within a hospital, health system, or large healthcare provider.
Strong understanding of enterprise PACS and imaging architecture.
Experience with
Visage, PowerScribe, and Laurel Bridge/Compass
is highly preferred.
Experience with Epic Radiant and Radiology-related Epic integrations is preferred.
Strong knowledge of DICOM and HL7 clinical workflows.
Experience with enterprise application migrations and PACS modernization initiatives.
Experience managing application vendors and third-party service providers.
Experience supporting cloud-based imaging platforms and enterprise imaging transformation initiatives.
ITIL certification or practical ITIL Service Management experience is preferred.

NTT DATA provides a reasonable range of compensation for U.S.-based positions. The starting pay range for this role is $111,172 – 205,875. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience, technical skills, and other qualifications.
This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation based on individual and/or company performance.
